Blake's Weir redevelopment

Although of relative architectural rarity, the paddle and rymer structure of Blake's Weir is to be replaced in 2010. Following a short consultation period in July-August 2009, the redevelopment will take place on the grounds of improving health and safety (for employees who have to manually adjust the labour intensive existing structure) and to improve control during flood periods.

Paddle and rymer weirs at Radcot, Northmoor, Mapledurham and Molesey on the River Thames will also be replaced, whilst the historic significance of this type of weir has generated a temporary repreive for further Thames sites at Rushey, Iffley, Goring and Streatley.

The Environment Agency Scoping report can be found here, with details of the individual proposals for Blake's Weir located here.
